Skincare and Makeup Review: Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil, Hidden Glow Brightening Cream, and Smooth Sailing Perfecting Primer

Even if I have oily skin, I want to look dewy and glowy. I want to cover my imperfections every morning but still leave it looking bright, healthy and hydrated. Wander Beauty sent over products that might help.

Okay, I rarely say this but using the Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil ($42) was love at first application. It says it’s a face oil on the tube so, I was surprised when I pumped out the actual product because it’s so light and watery. It’s also pink and it has some glitters on it. These glitters are light-diffusing pigments blended with castor oil, black currant oil, niacinamide, and arginine to form a product that promises to brighten, moisturize, and improve the appearance of skin.

I personally don’t like using face oils however, when I put this on my face, it glided on smoothly and sunk into my skin quickly. It left my skin silky but semi-matte. The glitters were unnoticeable but it did make my skin glow. Aside from this, my skin also feels nourished and hydrated whenever I use this. I like using this before applying my makeup because it keeps my skin healthy-looking and soft.

The Hidden Glow Brightening Cream ($40) contains golden light-diffusing optics to brighten, soothe, and protect the skin, along with eon centella asiatica extract, adenosine, elderberry extract, camellia japonica flower extract, along with cranberry fruit extract, which help give skin a smoother, younger-looking appearance.

This moisturizer is a bit thick so I will have to pull this out come colder days. It does feel nourishing and it offers a slight brightening effect so those with dry or normal skin would like this.

Looking at the Smooth Sailing Perfecting Primer ($36) always makes me smile. This light gel-like primer has gold flakes in them. It contains gold, vitamin c, and vitamin e to mattify, minimize pores, and blur imperfections.

It feels a bit oily but applies matte and light on the skin. It makes applying foundation easy because it feels like silk on the skin. This is not mattifying enough for my oily skin so I always apply powder on top of my foundation to keep the oiliness at bay. It does blur imperfections a bit so, I like using this on days when I wear a light makeup but want that extra glow.

These products are indeed brightening and would be a good option if you want that extra glow to the skin. For those with oily skin, the Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil and Smooth Sailing Perfecting Primer are worth checking out. I have been using these everyday since I got it because they just provide that dewy glow I like to have when I wear my everyday makeup. All these products are also cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan, and are formulated without parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, and mineral oil.

Fresh Beauty Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash

The Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash from Fresh Beauty ($33) cleanses and exfoliates to refine, soften, and smooth the skin using two sizes of sugar crystals from beetroots, soapberry peel extract, strawberry fruit and blackcurrant fruit extracts, and grapeseed oil. This face cleanser smells a bit like strawberry jam, which isn’t exactly a bad thing since I love strawberries but sometimes, the smell can get a bit concentrated. The actual cleanser has exfoliating sugar cubes that seem to melt with the actual cleanser the more you massage it onto the skin, which for is genius. It exfoliates and calmed my skin in one application. Despite the exfoliating bits, this feels gentle enough for my skin. It lightly exfoliates and, upon rinsing, it leaves the skin slightly smooth. My skin also feels moisturized a bit, not tight or squeaky clean. It’s a good option for some light exfoliation while smelling strawberries.

Wander Beauty Drift Away™ Cleanser

Enjoying all things pink recently so I’m always reaching for the cruelty-free products of Wander Beauty.

I’ve been enjoying the Drift Away™ Cleanser ($32), their gel-to-foam cleanser that promises to cleanse, nourish, and vitalize the skin using seawater, kelp, coconut water, acai fruit extract, and guava extract. This face cleanser has a gel texture that turns into a white paste once rubbed on the skin. Then it transforms into a clear color the more you massage it. It’s honestly an adventure. As instructed, this vegan cleanser is meant to be rinsed with warm water but I had reservations the first time I used it. It feels creamy and pasty on the skin that I thought it wouldn’t be able to remove my makeup and it wouldn’t come off cleanly. I was wrong. It removes everything – makeup and oils. It was able to remove even full-coverage foundation but I had to use an eye makeup remover to remove eyeliners and mascaras. As a first cleanser for every day, this leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean, devoid of oils but not tight or dry.

Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub

When I first started this page, I posted about my adoration for the Wave Spray and the Rose Hair and Body Oil from Ouai because they work well with my extremely dry hair and body.

Another new thing to like is the Scalp & Body Scrub ($38) which promises to deeply cleanse the scalp and skin using sugar crystals, probiotic blend, and coconut oil. First off, this scrub smells luxuriously amazing. Per the website, the scent is so good they made it a fragrance called Melrose Place (sidebar, I have more than enough perfumes but this smells so good.)

As for the product itself, I love it. The sugar crystals are coarse but it doesn’t hurt the skin or the scalp. They’re like crystals that melt onto the skin and leave a lather. It doesn’t leave a film or residue after rinsing, which is a great plus. As a body scrub, my skin just feels cleansed, soft, smooth, and great smelling. Once a week, I use this as a scalp scrub on the weekends to make sure that I have all hair gunk removed as I use texture sprays and hair oils every day to tame flyaways or create added volume. Since the crystals are gentle, it doesn’t hurt the scalp and instead feels relaxing to the scalp.

This is another win for me and a great addition to my selfcare routine.

Sulwhasoo Bloomstay Vitalizing Water

The Bloomstay Vitalizing Water ($75) from Sulwhasoo uses plum blossom and yuzu to hydrate, revitalize, and moisturize the skin. This face toner is watery but it has a certain weight to it. I’ve been applying this at night as my first toner the past few weeks and I’ve been really happy how nourishing it feels on my skin. I also wake up with soft and plump skin afterward.

*I got this product from Octoly.

Brand Overview: Wander Beauty

They are all pink so, first off, thank you for being so pretty. The packaging and the actual product inside Wander Beauty are honestly so pretty making it a joy to use. However, let’s see the results.

The BRB Multipolish ($36) promises to brighten, refine, and balance the skin with plant-derived cellulose, pineapple, and papaya enzymes, glycolic acid, pomegranate and meadowfoam seed oils. I have repeatedly written here that I prefer wash off masks over scrubs so its prettiness is the only thing that propelled me to give this a try. Compared to other scrubs I’ve tried, this has smaller beads but that doesn’t mean it scrubs any less. It does exfoliate like other scrubs and leaves the skin feeling smooth. I like using this better on my lips to exfoliate.

The Lift Off Purifying and Brightening Peel Off Mask ($34) uses acai, goji berry, blueberry, lychee, mangosteen, and green tea extracts to purify and replenish dull skin and kaolin to absorb excess oil and draws out impurities. This is a berry colored #peeloffmask and it looks so pretty when applied. It also feels gentle on the skin. However, as I prefer wash-off masks, I don’t reach for this as much.

I really like how the Baggage Claim Eye Masks ($25) are packaged individually. This #eyemask promises to brighten, hydrate and reduce the appearance of dark circles using hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf extract, and amino acids. These travel-friendly eye masks feel soothing and hydrating to the eye area. It also feels very high-quality and doesn’t easily slip even if I use this sitting upright. I cannot attest to reducing the appearance of dark circles but it does offer immediate brightening.

The Dive In Moisturizer ($36) aims to offer 72 hours of deep hydration with pentavitin, glycerin, panthenol, and sodium hyaluronate, and strawberry, raspberry, cranberry and acai berries. This light pink #moisturizer applies like silk when massaged onto the skin. It has an elegant texture and it leaves the skin feeling silky and plump. However, it’s not hydrating or moisturizing enough for my #oilyskin, especially during this warm weather. I usually wake up with a shiny face whenever I use this.

My favorite out of the bunch is the Lip Retreat Oil ($22), treatment oil that uses rosa canina fruit oil, apricot kernel, and avocado oil to firm and moisturize. This applies like a glossy gel. It has a certain grip to it but it applies so easily on the lips. The nude, Skinny Dip, one suits my lips greatly as it helps even the tone while Excursion offers a berry-colored tone if you want a bit of boldness. It has a good enough staying power, meaning it gets past drinks and lip licking. It doesn’t stick to my hair and the shine it has is not that distracting. Just a bit of something extra to the look.

I have really enjoyed using the Baggage Claim Eye Masks and Lip Retreat Oil. The Dive In Moisturizer might be best suited for those with normal skin while BRB Multipolish and Lift Off Purifying and Brightening Peel Off Mask is a good option for those who like face scrubs and peel-off masks.
