Skincare Review: Tarte Deep Dive Cleansing Gel, Rainforest of the Sea Radiance Drops, and Baba Bomb

I have also subscribed to the belief that only oily skincare products should only be all or one of these things – lightweight, watery, or gel-like. That products for my skin type should never be creamy. However, since I’m older (and, hopefully, wiser) I have found the truth – my oily skin can use creamy, heavier than usual products. It just all depends on the situation.

The Deep Dive Cleansing Gel, for example, is not the usual cleansing gel I would go for. In fact, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever tried. As per all cleansers, this promises to remove excess oil, impurities, and even waterproof makeup using a blend of algae and marine flower extracts along with allantoin, provitamin b5, indian gooseberry extract, and lavender oil. What sets it apart is its glue-like texture and consistency. Like the kind of glue you play with when you were a kid – sticky and dense. It removes makeup the way I’ve never seen before – lifting them up instead of melting the makeup. It’s very evident as I rinse. All the makeup products I used rose above the water. It’s fascinating. It removes face products but needs a little more massaging when it comes to lip products and eyeliners.

A whipped moisturizer best for cold days if you have oily skin, the Baba Bomb ($39) aims to hydrate, nourish, and moisturize the skin using babassu, avocado, green tea, and plant collagen. This moisturizes and soothes my skin on days when it’s feeling dry and parched. I don’t use this every day, only when my skin is reacting to the drop in temperature. Since this moisturizer is on the heavy side of the spectrum, I only use this on really cold nights.

Promising to be more than just a face oil, the Rainforest of the Sea Radiance Drops ($32) uses algae, marine flower extracts, jojoba oil, maracuja oil, coconut oil, vitamin e, and squalene to hydrate and nourish the skin. It can be used as a highlighting primer, a lip oil, or it can be mixed with the foundation for a radiant finish. It’s a lightweight and runny oil that, for me, works best when mixed with my foundation for natural-looking dewiness that doesn’t look greasy. I like that it doesn’t feel sticky and it sinks in the skin. I have been into because of its runny and lightweight texture, this gives my oily skin a healthy glow even on warm days.

Skincare Review: Tarte Frxxxtion Stick 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser, Rainforest of the Sea Deep Sea Collagen Super Serum, Mermaid Skin Hyaluronic H2O Serum, Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer

A few months back, Tarte sent over some of their skincare products and these are the ones that suit my oily skin.

A solid cleanser that’s great for travel, the Frxxxtion Stick 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser ($22) contains diatomaceous earth microexfoliants (fossilized sea algae) to remove surface oil, reduce shine, and purify pores. As expected, this cleanser has some exfoliating bits to it. For an on-the-go cleanser, this thoroughly cleanses my skin. It removes all the dirt and excess oil on my skin. Personally, this is a bit stripping for everyday use. However, I like using this after spending a lot of time outdoors or when my skin is feeling clogged.

The Rainforest of the Sea Deep Sea Collagen Super Serum ($39) contains a bi-phase cocktail of marine-based collagen, marine plant extracts, and oils to plump and brighten the skin. I love how light and watery this is. It works in the morning because it sinks in so quickly. It doesn’t completely dry matte but it leaves a satin-like texture that suits my hydrating foundation. It also feels hydrating and nourishing to the skin.

Formulated to hydrate and protect the skin, the Mermaid Skin Hyaluronic H2O Serum ($42) contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and marine plant extracts. This is a lightweight serum that feels nourishing and hydrating to the skin. I use this when my skincare routine focuses on hydration. It helps control oil in the morning, making my makeup stay longer.

The Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer ($39) uses hyaluronic acid, sea salts, and plant extracts to soothe, hydrate, and refresh the skin. Admittedly, this feels like the hydrating gel K-Beauty moisturizers. It looks and feels like them too with its light gel consistency that sinks in quickly into the skin. It feels refreshing and hydrating to the skin.

Overall, these products work in hydrating my oily skin. If you’re a fan of Tarte and/or looking for vegan skincare products, they are worth checking out.

Cult Favorite: Tarte Knockout Daily Exfoliating Cleanser and Knockout Tingling Treatment

My face has been through some dark times and receiving the Knockout Daily Exfoliating Cleanser and the Knockout Tingling Treatment from Tarte brought back some memories I’d really like to forget. It made me with these products were available when I was in high school.

Using a AHA and BHA acid complex with lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids, the Knockout Daily Exfoliating Cleanser promises to remove dead skin, refine pores, improve texture, brighten, and balance the skin. It also contains apple extract to hydrate and peppermint and eucalyptus to soothe, and eucalyptus to soothe the skin. Its gel texture emulsifies into a creamy milk-like lather.

It smells very clinical, which I don’t really mind but it’s worth noting for those who are sensitive. It feels cooling to the skin, which I enjoy. It can be a bit stripping for some but for my oily and clog-prone skin, I like it. This claims to be okay for everyday use but for me, I prefer to use twice a week and when my skin is feeling irritated and clogged. It wipes my face clean and devoid of any oil. I follow this with hydrating serums to balance my skin and makeup for the intense cleansing I just went through. This was especially helpful when I had a lot of blemishes a few weeks back as it helps keep my face clean and clear.

To treat, the Knockout Tingling Treatment promises to resurface, balance, control oil, minimize pores, and clarify the skin using niacinamide, salicylic acid, lactic acid, and sulfur.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that the BR P50 smells like vinegar and I think this toner took it as a challenge. This has a strong sour smell and, consistently, it also has a strong tingling feeling to the skin. Fortunately, both the tingle and the smell dissipate after a few seconds. I have used treatments like this before and by far, this felt the most intense. However, results are as intense as it felt. I used this thrice a week when my skin was irritated and after week, I noticed a lot of changes. It cleared up my skin and zapped all my whiteheads and pimples. I would definitely recommend this if you want some intense treatment for your irritated skin and clogged pores.

Using this combo made me get out of skincare hell but even if my skin isn’t that sensitive, I would recommend using this sparingly and when you do, pile on soothing and moisturizing products to support these.

Current Foundations for My Oily Skin

Aside from me loving sleeping more than going out, I never liked staying out too late, or at least getting my picture taken while I do. No, not because of my inherent need for proper lighting, it’s just that I always look like a grease ball in them. It’s not just about having a shiny forehead. I have been witness to foundation missing each other too much that they decided to get together on the middle of my forehead at the end of the night or my mascara, suddenly contacting the dark circles under my eyes making me looking more and more like a raccoon as each hour passes. It’s not a pretty sight. Hence, my goal to share some products that have complimented my oily skin perfectly.

For that, I just woke up like this coverage. The Chanel Vitalumière Aqua is the only foundation that can make me glow, not oily, without the help of a highlighter. Whenever I use this, my skin just looks so healthy. It’s super light and gets that your-skin-but-better look down pat. I still blot midday to get some oil out but it was never excessive. It has a sheer coverage so; you will need concealer for more coverage.

For every day. The Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint is lightweight and sheer, which offers more coverage than the Vitalumiere. It provides a breathable coverage and a natural, even skin tone after application. Also, it has SPF 30 so, if you woke up late, this does two of you makeup routines already. It doesn’t slip after a few hours and stays crease-free, perfect for those long meetings where you don’t want to people to see you crack – literally and figuratively.

For every day, but you’re meeting someone. The Tarte Amazonian Clay  Foundation gives good coverage and contains Amazonian Clay that absorbs excess oil. It mattifies the skin but doesn’t dry out the skin. It lasts my whole office day up until dinner with friends. It might give full coverage but it doesn’t feel like it. It feels like a medium coverage foundation and blends like a dream. I can go home the same person I went out the door – only with a wine stain on my lips.

For when you are meeting someone and you know it’s going to be a long night. The Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation is easily blendable and has a powder-like finish. It removes redness and shine in an oil-free formula so it can’t be messed with by sweat, breakouts, or humidity. It would take me 8 hours before I have to blot and I don’t have to retouch for the whole day. There are a lot of raves about this foundation and I think it lives up to the hype.

For when you think you’re going to have the best night of your life. The M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid Foundation offers those with oily types 24 hours of smooth, shine-free skin. It has a buildable coverage that provides a flawless finish. It has a natural matte finish that makes your skin look flawless. Whenever I use this, people ask me if I had my makeup done professionally. By the end of the night, or morning, my makeup still looks together. Walk of shame is not a concept for this one.

For the midday touch-up. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation is always in my purse. Best suited for oily and combination skin types, this cream product provides a full coverage. I’ve used it on its own or as a retoucher in the middle of the day. It’s so compact so it’s great for last-minute appointments. Perfect for the lazy ones, I sometimes use this on areas where I need coverage and I’m good to go.
