Today’s SPF Spotlight goes to Colorescience SPF products I have been using the past couple of months. Their products use the EnviroScreen® Technology, which has an exclusive blend of ingredients and patented sunscreen actives that aim to create a protective barrier on the skin, preventing free radical formation and oxidative stress.
The Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield SPF 50 ($39) promises to provide complete protection against UVA/UVB, pollution, blue light, and infrared radiation with Broad Spectrum SPF 50/PA+++ in an oil-free formula that’s water and sweat resistant for 40 minutes.
Its consistency looks light and watery but it applies creamy on the skin that feels lightweight. Like a typical liquid SPF but in a lighter consistency. It has a slight white cast that I was able to diffuse by thoroughly massaging it on my face but those with darker skin tones than I am might have more difficulty. For my #oilyskin, I feel like I could only wear this when it’s not too humid as I tend to sweat a lot and get too greasy territory by noon.
My favorite SPF reapplicator is the Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-On Shield SPF 50 ($65). It provides Broad Spectrum SPF 50/PA++++ and the same protection of the Face Shield but in powder form.
I wish the brush feels a bit rough and uneven on the skin so I only use it when I reapply. In the mornings, what I like to do is pour the powder in a flat surface and use a powder brush to apply it. I can use this to set my makeup and the shades I have, medium and tan, suits my skin tone properly. The powder is finely milled so it covers the skin evenly. It also applies matte and it doesn’t leave a powdery look so, I have the one in my makeup bag so I can easily reapply after every couple of hours.

With the different skin characteristics in mind, Elemental Herbology based their products on the five elements. For normal to combination skin, their Balance range is represented by Wood, inspired by growth and change. This range aims to help naturally oily areas, replenish moisture levels, and protect the skin against environmental factors.
The Harmonising Cleanse (£27.95) is a vegan cleansing oil that contains grapefruit, 5 alpha avocuta from avocado, and argan oil to cleanse, purify, and nourish the skin while controlling oil and improving the moisture barrier. The cleanser is lightweight and does not feel greasy. When I massage the product on my face with some water, the product very lightly lathers and feels milky as I work it into my face. What I love about this product is that while it has a very gentle formulation and feel on my skin, it leaves my face feeling so clean and free from dirt and even tough to remove makeup. I also love the luxurious scent of this product. However, this leaves a bit of a filmy residue when I remove this with water so this is best used when removed using a cloth. As a matter of preference, I like rinsing my first cleanser with water.
The Perfect Balance (£31.75), on the other hand, helps protect against environmental factors, replenish moisture levels, and reduce congestion for a balanced complexion with cell active hydro (from sugars of apples, algae, and lupin proteins), sepitonic (zinc, magnesium, copper), and kakadu plum. This moisturizer is a light cream that has a herbal and earthy scent. The scent, which can be quite strong upon application, but, when evenly distributed, is quite pleasant. The consistency of the moisturizer is light and gets absorbed quickly into my skin. Similar to the facial cleanser, I noticed that this works on both dry and oily areas of the face. It may, however, need reapplication for those with extremely dry skin since of its lightweight nature.

REN Clean Skincare recently came out with their first-ever SPF, the Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30, and I got to try it as a #RENPartner.
This SPF promises to be a mattifying face sunscreen that is no-shine, sensitive-skin-friendly, easily absorbed, and easily incorporated into your daily skincare routine. It offers Broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, blue light protection, and non-nano technology. It’s also vegan and is made with yellow passion fruit seed extract to protect against pollution, rice starch to soothe and provide a matte finish, and zinc oxide to blocks and reflects UVA, UVB, Blue Light. This SPF is also formulated without silicone, oxybenzone, and chemical UV filters.
This is creamy with a typical SPF texture with a lighter consistency. It applies thick, though, and has a white cast. I can’t apply this alone on my medium toned skin and had to cover it with makeup to even out the tone.
As for its mattifying promise, it sort of delivers. I didn’t get overly oily for about four hours but after that, there was a bit of shine on my t-zone. It’s not overly shiny though and I didn’t feel the need to blot. However, I think this would better suit those with fair and oily skin.

Aiming to protect and moisturize the skin in two steps, Sonne (pronounce as “sun”) only has two products – Sonne Morning and Evening. Both products promise to combat sun exposure, dry skin, wrinkles, and dark circles. They are also vegan, cruelty-free, and are free of gluten, sulfates, parabens, and phthalates.
Sonne Morning is a natural daily defense moisturizer. It’s a physical sunscreen broad spectrum SPF 50. It contains zinc oxide, red algae, vitamin c, and vitamin e.
This product brings out a cleaner, fresher, and glowing look to my face. It doesn’t feel tacky and dries out quickly. Incorporating this into my daytime skincare routine has helped me achieve a smoother complexion. It has a gentle formula and smells great. Also, my skin feels instantly hydrated and moisturized after each use. It does feel greasy, however, at times when I sweat too much.
Sonne Evening, on the other hand, is a nightly restorative brightening lotion with vitamin c, squalene, orange fruit extract, and peptides. Just like the morning cream, this one is non-greasy and dries out fast. It also doesn’t leave an oily film at all. It smells nice and does well in leaving my skin hydrated and moisturized overnight. I never wake up to a dull skin while on this.

#geteveryday sent over some body care products to help heal and protect my skin. Researched and produced in Australia, Everyday For Every Body aims to revolutionize the bathroom cabinet by providing personal care staples made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oils, artificial colors, and fragrances.
The Club BFF Natural Rescue Balm ($15) is formulated with papaya, acai, sunflower seed oil, and soybean germ extract, the #bodybalm is a lightweight product that softens dry areas — lips, elbows, you name it. I primarily like to use it on my lips because of the applicator. I use it before I leave the house and before I sleep so that I get plump-looking and soft lips all day. The clear gel formula sticks on well and has a minty taste to it. It gives my lips that nice glow, without looking too flashy. As a matter of preference, I like my #lipbalm light and thin so I mostly use this on the drier areas of my body like my elbows.
On the other hand, the Resting Beach Face SPF30 Anti-Pollution Sunscreen Serum ($30), with its kale, spinach, and seaweed extracts to protect the skin from grime and heat — perfect for the sunny weather. It’s also free of oxybenzone, octinoxate, and PABA. The pump dispenses enough products every pump so that’s a plus. Since the product is quite thick, I like to use it as a finisher for my morning skincare routine, adding a light layer on top of my moisturizer. Thankfully, it doesn’t have a white cast on my medium, yellow-toned skin. Since I sweat a lot too, I try not to apply it too thickly on my skin. The smell is subtle — not too overpowering, which I like. However, for my #oilyskin, I find the formula a bit thick than I would like and this makes me feel greasy and look shiny.
