Makeup Review: By Terry Starlight Rose Collection

I did not include the Starlight Rose Glow Booster CC Serum from By Terry in my 2019 makeup favorites because I got to try it so late into the year. However, I have been using it since 2020 started to give my fave a subtle yet healthy glow.

This primer brightens while hydrating the skin using rosehip butter, moonstone extract, and gemstone pearls. It looks creamy from the bottle but it applies lightly to the skin, providing a thin almost unnoticeable canvas before the foundation.

For my oily skin, I apply a mattifying primer before putting six little dots of this all over my face. I then buff this with my stick foundation. It brightens my skin and doesn’t leave too matte. It just makes me look like I had eight hours of sleep like I only eat fruits and vegetables. That’s how healthy this makes me look. If I want a little bit more glow, I also put this on the high points of my face and my lids after applying foundation.

To really up the ante, I use the Starlight Rose CC Powder on my lids and on my cheekbones. This illuminating powder has that provides a lot of shimmers. This is not for the faint of heart, not for those with a lot of texture either. I have on my cheeks so I really have to be careful when applying this. However, if I’m looking for impact, this is what I really go for.

For a big day, I use the Starlight Rose Baume de Rose Flaconnette Liquid Lip Balm before applying my makeup.

It contains rose blossom essential wax, shea butter, vitamin e, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid microspheres to combat dryness and strengthen, protect, and hydrate the lips. I have been using this before applying matte lipsticks to protect my lips and keep it from drying.

Makeup Review: Erborian CC Creme + Primers Bundle

I have long wanted to try Erborian since I was introduced to the brand via videos from @gothamista. Thankfully Erborian gifted me the CC Creme + Primers Bundle.

This is my first CC cream so I really do not know what to expect. I know it stands for concealing and cover but I was surprised as to how much this concealed and covered.

I currently have a few pigmentations from healed blemishes on my cheeks and that was gone on my first application of the CC Creme. So did my dark circles and texture. I do not use concealer with this at all and I still look flawless.

It comes out gray in the tube which then turns into a skin-like shade once applied on the face. It also has a different slip compared to my foundation. The cream texture sort of feels like it mattifies once it’s applied. It’s just amazing really. I just wish it came with more shades as the shade Caramel is about three shades darker than my skin tone, it also has a yellow undertone that makes me look like I have an intense tan when I overdo my application.

This bundle also came with two primers. The Glow Crème Illuminating Primer has a lightweight and creamy consistency.

I like using this as an illuminator before applying foundation for the glow from within look.

Meanwhile, the Pink Perfect 4-in-1 Primer has the same lightweight consistency as the Glow Crème, but instead of highlighting and illuminating the skin, this one smooths, brightens, and blurs the complexion to minimize the appearance of pores and provide a radiant glow.

This primer gives me a soft-focus look on the skin, which I really like. It feels light and nourishing to the skin but it does a great job masking texture and providing a radiant complexion.

Makeup Review: Yulip Beauty Lipsticks

When it comes to makeup, k-beauty brands are where I get the ‘my lips but better’ lip colors that are natural-looking and not drying. So, when I saw the am11 shade from Yulip, I know I wanted to try it.

Yulip was created when the founder was pregnant and was looking for a lip color that is made with natural ingredients. Their lipsticks are cruelty-free and are toxin-free, paraben-free, lead-free, gluten-free, chemical-free, and non-GMO. Instead, they are made of food-grade plant-based oils, organic beeswax, and shea butter to provide anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and soothing benefits.

These lipsticks feel creamy on the lips but it looks semi-matte. It can emphasize the lines on your lips so be wary if you have a lot. It does feel thicker than most lipsticks but I didn’t really mind because it stayed on longer than most as well. This isn’t one of those tints that compliment the color of your lips. This applies and covers as liquid lipstick would do without the dryness.

Iconic, a light pink beige with a peachy undertone, applies the exact color of the bullet. It takes about two solid swipes to completely cover my lips. I like how this brightens my face instead of making me look sick. Even without the dark eyes or bright cheeks, this works for my skin. AM11 is a burnt orange, deep coral color. It’s an everyday lip that looks bold enough if you want some color but not too much that it’s distracting. Angry Rose, a brick red, dried rose color with pink undertone, is good to use at night to deepen the look or in the morning if you want to be a bit bold.

Makeup Review: Red Earth Have Fun Lipstick Matches

There are days when all you can do is put some lipstick and call it a day. That’s what I’ve been doing the past few days using these Red Earth products.

A very unique concept is their Have Fun Lipstick Matches ($18), which are literally shaped like old-school matches. It can easily slip into the thinnest clutches without bulging and are extremely pigmented.

Application takes a bit of getting used to as the applicator is thin and isn’t plastic so control and precision is something I learned after a few trials. It’s also a bit creamy so my trick is drawing this in the inner parts of my lips before spreading it out with my fingers for a gradient/bitten effect.

Have Fun is a fuschia shade while Sorry Not Sorry looks like an old rose.
