Haircare Review: Eva NYC Deeptox Exfoliating Salt Shampoo

I am a bit late to the hair scrub party. I have lived all my life knowing about shampoos, conditioners, and the occasional hair masks but scrubs is a recent find and I didn’t know how much my scalp and hair needed it.

As I have mentioned much time, my scalp can be temperamental. It can easily get extremely dry or extremely oily so using hair styling products and just hair products, in general, have been difficult. It’s why I have a lot so I can cater to the different scalp and hair needs I might have.

I have been using the Deeptox Exfoliating Salt Shampoo from Eva NYC once every week to check if it will work for my hair. This new product is a scrub shampoo that promises to exfoliate and purify the scalp while eliminating dirt, pollutants, toxins and product buildup on the scalp. It contains sea salt, pomegranate extract, and witch hazel. This scrub is vegan, cruelty-free, and is also formulated without sulfates, parabens, phthalates, sodium chloride, and artificial colors.

This is the most stripping shampoo I have ever tried and I mean that as a compliment. It looks like a creamy scrub with small exfoliating bits. It doesn’t lather as a normal shampoo would and I know this would strip my hair of all dirt and product buildup as soon as I massaged this on my scalp. This is what I need to use when I use more styling products than usual. The exfoliating bits feel relaxing as I massage it on the skin. After each use, I follow this with a hair mask to moisturize and hydrate my hair and scalp. If I don’t, this will leave my dry scalp much drier and my fine hair tangled. I may not use this once a week but I will reach for this whenever I know my hair has been through a lot and when it needs a deep detox.

Cult Favorite: Briogeo Scalp Revival Collection

I have said this countless times but my hair and my scalp are more sensitive than my face. That’s why I have three kinds of shampoos and conditioners in my shower. Recently, I had some products from the Scalp Revival collection of Briogeo included in my rotation.

The Scalp Revival Collection uses binchotan charcoal, biotin, tea tree oil, and witch hazel to calm irritation, itchiness, flakes and dry scalp. All of which, I can have if I’m not too careful.

I wish Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo ($42) came in a pump so it wouldn’t take that much space in my bathroom shelf. It does the job though. It has a mask-like consistency, thicker than most conditioners, and it feels a bit grainy due to micro-exfoliators. If feels cool on the scalp and leaves my hair feel soft afterward. What I noticed after a few weeks of use, however, is that this prevents my scalp from getting too dry. It also helps with the itching I would feel after a day of staying outdoors and sweating a lot.

I use Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment ($32) before sleeping. I actually have this already in my stash. This is just my go-to when my scalp feels too itchy and oily. It helps balance my scalp.

I also like massaging the Stimulating Therapy Massager ($16) whenever I apply the Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo and the Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment. Aside from it helping me when I apply these products, it also massages my scalp, which feels so relaxing. This just calms me and puts me to sleep. I actually have another scalp massager on my bedside table.

The Charcoal + Biotin Dry Shampoo ($24) is something I don’t use often. Living in a sunny and humid area leaves me with no choice but to wash my hair daily. I only use dry shampoo when my hair is feeling a bit oily to control and balance my scalp throughout the day.

The Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo is a nice discovery and it complements my use of the Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment to prevent itching, dryness, and oiliness while keeping my hair looking healthy and feeling soft.

Haircare Review: Emulsion Shampoo Base and Stay Strong Add On

For 2020, I promised to take care of my hair better. I’ve been using hair masks and hair serums regularly. I have been checking how my hair exactly works a lot closer now and I promised to refrain putting my hair into a sleek, scab-pulling bun.

It landed me in the hands of Emulsion, which promises to hydrate and make the hair look and feel better.

The Shampoo Base is an SLS-free shampoo designed to clean without stripping hair of its natural oils using vitamin b5. It’s clear packaging and minimalist design made me think it was a serum or a face wash. I was surprised that with just a small amount, your hair gets all the nutrients it needs like argan and coconut oils which soften and protect your hair. Since its just a base shampoo, however, you really need an add-on or a conditioner to make your hair softer and more relaxed.

The Stay Strong Add On aims to treat and help contribute to stronger hair and moisturized skin using clary sage, lavender, carrot seed, lemongrass, and sandalwood. It’s very handy and easy to use, the same as the Shampoo Base. This made my hair a little softer and stronger while providing a fresh fragrance. This can also be used on the skin but I have exclusively used this on the ends of my hair when they are at their driest.

Haircare Review: Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Banana + Coconut Hair Pack and Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray

Been playing with the Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Banana + Coconut Hair Pack from Briogeo, which is actually so brave of me. The scents of banana and coconuts are my top 2 most hated scents.

Fragrance aside, I tried the shampoo and conditioner promise to nourish and hydrate dull, lifeless, and dry strands using banana, coconut, acai, and mango.

It took me weeks before I opened the bottle because I can only imagine how much I would hate the smell. I think the combination of the two scents screams tropical vacation.

As for the products themselves, they do a fine job of taming my hair without making my scalp oily. I have dry color-treated strands and these two helped in keeping them from looking stringy and deg. I like how they leave my hair feeling soft and smooth with just enough volume.

What I really liked though is the Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray. It’s a conditioning spray that contains rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to tame frizz and detangle the strands while softening, hydrating, and moisturizing the hair.

My hair is straight and fine, a perfect combination if you want your hair to be flying in opposite directions whenever you move. It stays like that too. I also have a lot of baby hair, especially around my face, making a sleek ponytail a feat to do. I usually apply a texturing spray just to ensure all the strands of my hair in place for the whole day. Just when I was for softer and gentle hair products, I came across this spray. It has a very light mist that provides enough hold during the day when I’m wearing my hair down. How I really like to use this, though, is when I’m doing a sleek ponytail or a low bun as it keeps everything in the right place without making my hair look wet or hard. I can still run my fingers through my hair without losing control. It provides a natural-looking smoothness, which I really like. I just spray a bit of this while I airdry my hair and I’m good to go.

These products are also vegan, cruelty-free, and are made without gluten, silicone, paraben, phthalates, sulfate, DEA, and artificial dyes.
