Cult Favorite: Ole Henriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner

The Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner from Ole Henriksen promises to brighten and smooth the skin, reduce the look of dark spots, and target fine lines and wrinkles using glycolic and lactic acids, sandalwood extract, chamomile extract, and licorice extract.

This has that sweet smell that the PHAT Glow Facial has. It’s very watery but leaves a bit of a tacky finish to the skin. It stings when swiped on the skin but it only lasts for a few seconds. A few months of using this, I noticed its refining, smoothing, and brightening benefits to the skin. I have a few bumps at the side of my face and this helped a lot in smoothing those parts of my face. Even though this is recommended for daily use, I only use this two times a week so it took more than a month to see results. If you love Ole Henriksen, this is worth checking out if you want to improve your skin’s texture while brightening and smoothing the complexions.

Skincare Review: Goop GOOPGLOW 15% Glycolic Acid Overnight Glow Peel

As a lover of glycolic acid, I immediately wanted to check the GOOPGLOW 15% Glycolic Acid Overnight Glow Peel. Complimentary from Goop, this peeling pad promises to exfoliate, retexturize, and brighten skin while you sleep.

These pads contain 15% glycolic acid to removes dead skin cells and other debris while helping increase cell turnover, tropical fruit extracts (mango, banana, and yellow mombin) to help with cell turnover while reinforcing the skin’s barrier function, Australian kakadu plum for its antioxidant properties, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin.

I have been using this twice now (once a week) and the pad that this peel uses is something I have never used before. It isn’t paper or cotton-like, as with most exfoliating pads I’ve used. It’s a bit rough and combined with the acid, this made my skin a bit red. It also stings a bit. However, the redness and the stinging subsides after a few minutes. It dries into a sticky finish. I’m no stranger to the percentage of glycolic acid this one has so I know the results I would get. As expected, this softened and smoothened my skin but aside from that, this peel left my skin looking plumper the morning after.

Brand Overview: Kinship

I was excited to try Kinship‘s products as soon as I saw them, mainly because of the fun, bright and colorful packaging. Aside from the cuteness factor, their products are cruelty-free, leaping bunny certified, reef-safe, and are free of GMO organisms. Their packaging is also made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, 100% PCR paper and from Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials.

I first tried the Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Face Cleanser, which has papaya, jojoba oil, and sunflower oil. It feels as great as it smells, with a light fruity smoothie scent that gently strips dirt and makeup off my face. I love it as a morning cleanser since it makes my face supple enough and ready for the day ahead.

Meanwhile, the Insta Swipe Lemon Honey AHA Pads are also something to love. Unlike most acids, this one isn’t extremely strong and has a sweet, citrus scent. It doesn’t dry my skin out. But even if it’s gentle, it does a great job of smoothening out my skin and reducing those small blemishes and bumps.

The Supermello Hydrating Gel Cream is a favorite too. First off, it smells like marshmallows so what’s not to love? With hyaluronic acid, marshmallow root and coconut water, it keeps my skin extremely soft, without making it greasy. I also love that I don’t need to put a lot of it to feel the effects.

The Pimple Potion, a retinol and salicylic acid acne treatment. It does take a while for it to get rid of pimples, but it’s a good spot treatment if you have sensitive skin and react badly to stronger products.

There’s also the Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturizing Sunscreen, providing SPF 32 coverage. It’s light, not too sticky and provides a bit of moisture, so it protects my face, without making it feel as oily as other facial sunscreens might. However, I prefer sunscreen with a higher SPF every day.

So while there were a few bumps, overall I’m a fan of Kinship‘s products. They not only look good on my skincare shelf, but they also have a good effect on my skin. Overall, their products are worth checking out as they are gentle and nourishing.

Skincare Review: Herbivore Botanicals Natural Fruit Acid 5% Exfoliating Glow Potion

As a lover of acids, I found the Natural Fruit Acid 5% Exfoliating Glow Potion from Herbivore Botanicals gentle and nourishing. This is actually surprising because this serum contains a blend of bilberry lactic, sugar cane glycolic, orange peel citric, and apple malic acid combined with kakadu plum to exfoliate, hydrate, and even the skin. This light viscous serum doesn’t sting or tingle at all, which surprised me when I first used it. However, looking at its first three ingredients (aloe vera leaf juice, sodium hyaluronate, rose flower water, and glycerin), I figured out why it felt gentle.

I think this would be great for those looking for a vegan and cruelty-free serum that gently exfoliates the skin while hydrating the skin.

As for my skin, I have gotten to a point that my skin is clear (save for a few blemishes during my period) so I have been into gentler formulations lately. This is a product I use together with other hydrating and nourishing products that are included in my basic routine at night.
