Makeup Review: Tarte Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask

Selfcare wise, I’ve been enjoying having the time to focus on applying and reapplying lip balms. I’m okay with the application part, it’s the reapplying that I used to have a hard time reminding myself. My lips are not that dry, to begin with so forgetting is easy. Not saying it should stay that way. It’s just so easy to forget.

Now that I’m working from home, I have the luxury of reminding myself. While working, I’ve been using the Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask from Tarte Cosmetics. These lip masks promise to hydrate and smooth the lips while offering a sheer tint. It uses squalane, hyaluronic acid, marine plant extracts, and a blend of avocado, jojoba argan oils.

I haven’t been wearing makeup everyday especially if I don’t have online meetings to attend to. If I do I just put brow makeup and one of the Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Masks to add a bit of color and shine to make me look alive and not all nap-ready. They have the shades Strawberry (sheer pink), Grapefruit (sheer coral), and Toasted Coconut (sheer nude), which applies really sheer. I like Strawberry as the pink tint works for my lips.

These Lip Masks are pretty hydrating and moisturizing. I like about these lip masks because they apply thinly on the lips and it actually feels lightweight. It’s how I prefer my lip products because I do not like feeling something sitting on top of my lips while I work. It makes me want to eat, I don’t know why. I also like that even though they look slightly glossy, they don’t feel sticky. They claim to work both day and night but I usually use these in the morning as I prefer something much thicker at night. They also keep me from wetting my lips constantly, which prevents them from drying.

Bodycare Review: Luxury Hand Creams

Being more mindful of moisturizing my hands nowadays. Currently using the new Luxury Hand Cream from Henne Organics.

The hand cream promises to moisturize the skin without the greasy feeling using aloe leaf juice, argan oil, glycerin, jojoba seed oil, caprylic triglycerides, and shea butter. It comes in two scents – Blomma, a blend of twinflower, rose, and geranium, and Citrus.

The tube packaging of the Luxury Hand Creams are very luxurious and compact. Both hand creams have a silky oily finish which I can still feel after minutes of application. It feels better when my skin is feeling extremely dry. The scent is strong, with the Citrus a tad stronger than Blomma, upon application but dissipates seconds after. What I also noticed with these hand creams is that you might need to put more than a pea-sized amount for each hand. They are moisturizing and the moisture they bring lasts more than most hand creams but personally, my hands normally don’t feel that dry so, on normal days, I prefer something that doesn’t feel oily.

Haircare Review: Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Banana + Coconut Hair Pack and Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray

Been playing with the Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Banana + Coconut Hair Pack from Briogeo, which is actually so brave of me. The scents of banana and coconuts are my top 2 most hated scents.

Fragrance aside, I tried the shampoo and conditioner promise to nourish and hydrate dull, lifeless, and dry strands using banana, coconut, acai, and mango.

It took me weeks before I opened the bottle because I can only imagine how much I would hate the smell. I think the combination of the two scents screams tropical vacation.

As for the products themselves, they do a fine job of taming my hair without making my scalp oily. I have dry color-treated strands and these two helped in keeping them from looking stringy and deg. I like how they leave my hair feeling soft and smooth with just enough volume.

What I really liked though is the Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray. It’s a conditioning spray that contains rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to tame frizz and detangle the strands while softening, hydrating, and moisturizing the hair.

My hair is straight and fine, a perfect combination if you want your hair to be flying in opposite directions whenever you move. It stays like that too. I also have a lot of baby hair, especially around my face, making a sleek ponytail a feat to do. I usually apply a texturing spray just to ensure all the strands of my hair in place for the whole day. Just when I was for softer and gentle hair products, I came across this spray. It has a very light mist that provides enough hold during the day when I’m wearing my hair down. How I really like to use this, though, is when I’m doing a sleek ponytail or a low bun as it keeps everything in the right place without making my hair look wet or hard. I can still run my fingers through my hair without losing control. It provides a natural-looking smoothness, which I really like. I just spray a bit of this while I airdry my hair and I’m good to go.

These products are also vegan, cruelty-free, and are made without gluten, silicone, paraben, phthalates, sulfate, DEA, and artificial dyes.

Skincare Review: Hanskin Pore Cleansing Balm (BHA) and Pore Cleansing Oil (BHA)

As someone who simply used a cleansing foam and called it skincare, the discovery of cleansing oils and cleansing balms when I was in Korea is almost as good as discovering that the baker of your favorite chocolate cake is your neighbor.

So, no matter how many cleansing balms and cleansing oils I own, I always welcome trying another first cleanser, especially from a brand that’s I’ve heard when I first got into skincare.

Hanskin offers cleansing products suitable for your skin type, which intrigued me. Most brands only offer one variant. They sent me the Pore Cleansing Balm (BHA) and Pore Cleansing Oil (BHA).

The Pore Cleansing Balm (BHA) promises to remove makeup and impurities, control breakouts and oil, and fight blackheads using salicylic and a blend of argan, jojoba and peppermint oils.

This has a balmy texture but it feels oily once you massage it on the skin. It melts into a heavy balm consistency but doesn’t leave a film upon rinsing. It removes everyday makeup but needs more massaging if I have waterproof makeup or complicated eye looks. It also leaves my skin soft and supple after rinsing. This, however, does not emulsify easily so I rub this onto my hands to breakdown the product before applying it on my skin.

On the other hand, the Pore Cleansing Oil [BHA] uses salicylic acid, a blend of fruit oils, including orange, lemon, and grapefruit, as well as olive and jojoba oils, to cleanse the skin and prevent breakouts. The watery oil consistency leaves the skin feeling moist. It leaves a bit of a film after wash but this is easier to use than the balm because it easily emulsifies with water. The filmy feeling is okay, since I always do a second cleanse, but I like my first cleansers to not leave a trail as it makes me feel like I haven’t removed every grime on my skin. This is best removed with a warm cloth, which I don’t really do. However, in this method, it leaves the skin cleansed and smooth. Two pumps can remove everyday makeup and dirt.

I like using these when I’m about to get my period because my hormones are on overdrive during that time of the time and I need all the help that I can get. However, I did not see a huge difference in using both compared to other cleansing oils and balms that don’t cater to a specific skin type. As a cleansing balm lover, though, it surprised me that I enjoyed using the Pore Cleansing Oil (BHA) more as it removed makeup and dirt faster and easier.

Haircare Review: Function of Beauty Shampoo, Conditioner, Hair Mask, and Hair Serum

My hair has been extra dry recently so when Function of Beauty offered to help with their new hair mask and hair serum, I immediately said yes.

As with personalized hair products I’ve tried, Function of Beauty asked questions about my hair types, concerns, and goals. For reference, I have thin, fine, straight hair and scalp that easily gets irritated or oily depending on its mood. I wanted to hydrate, replenish, and strengthen my hair while soothing and nourishing my roots and scalp.

As per usual, the Shampoo and Conditioner smell amazing (I chose the flower to the people scent.) It made my hair smooth and less tangled after rinsing. I am one of those people who shampoo their hair every day while conditioning its ends daily as well. So far, these two helped moisturized my hair without making my scalp too oily. They just provided a balance.

The Hair Mask promises to deeply condition, hydrate, and nourish my hair using argan oil, japanese sake, and jojoba ester oil. The creamy mask is easily massaged on the scalp. Whenever I mask, I pay extra attention to the ends of my hair as it’s where my strands get the driest. While using this, my hair is the softest and smoothest it has gotten. It stayed like that for about three days before I felt the need to apply again.

Something that can be used once a day or for touch-ups, the Hair Serum aims to manage the hair, smooth frizz, and enhance its shine. It contains argan oil, annatto oil, jojoba oil, and sunflower oil. Despite these ingredients, the hair serum doesn’t feel that oil. This serum actually has a gel texture that makes it easier to use. A testament to how good this is: I wore my hair down, after always putting it into a bun, and used this at the ends. I also used a texturing spray to create and some loose waves and everyone complimented me on how good my hair looks. I felt like the serum helped hold the waves I created and it made my hair look more weighted instead of fine and frizzy. It doesn’t leave it looking limp and oily. This is instant love.

These products are also vegan, cruelty-free, and are made without mineral oil, phthalates, gluten, parabens, and sulfates.
