Makeup Review: Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Full Coverage Foundation

I have always loved foundations from Make Up For Ever. I have the old Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation, which I use during the summer and the UltraHD Stick Foundation, which I like using for every day. They just work for my oily skin best.

So, I was excited to get to try this new Matte Velvet Foundation. In terms of consistency, this seems creamier than the Mat Velvet. For texture, it applies thickly, fulfilling its promise for full coverage. One swipe and it conceals redness and pigmentation. I still have to use an undereye concealer but that’s a given because I really have dark undereyes. This, I also felt, has more coverage than its predecessor. It dries really matte so I sometimes like to mix this with a liquid highlighter for a more natural finish and use it alone if I know I’m going to have a full day. It applies evenly and, as expected, it looks great on my oily skin.

On the first day, I used a serum, a moisturizer, and SPF underneath this one. I didn’t use an oil-controlling setting mist on top to test its hold. It had a bit of shine after the 12-hour mark but it doesn’t look bad on photos. The foundation also didn’t settle on my lines nor did it gather on the oily parts of my face. I can say that this is a good full-coverage foundation for those with oily skin type. I like using this when I know I’m going to have a busy and long day so I wouldn’t have to worry about reapplying makeup, this base only needs a few touch-ups here and there to keep it fresh.
