With the philosophy that a clear, glowing complexion is the perfect foundation, celebrity makeup artist Munemi Imai founded Mun Skincare. The brand aims to nurture, balance, and brighten all skin. Their products contain sustainably-sourced ingredients and are natural, organic, cruelty-free, and vegan.
Ann oil-based cleanser, the Akwi Purifying Cleanser ($65) promises to lift impurities, unclog pores, and remove even the most stubborn waterproof makeup without stripping the skin with castor seed oil, argan oil, and camellia seed oil. This has an emulsion like consistency and texture, sinks into the skin like one too. I like using this after I wore my makeup for too long. It removes even the sturdiest products easily and leaves my skin soft and nourished, not raw and tight.
The Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner ($70) contains bulgarian rosewater to soothe, hyaluronic acid and aloe leaf juice to hydrate, willowbark extract to exfoliate, goji berry to reduce free radical damage, and prickly pear stem extract to calm the skin. I was most excited to try this because of the ingredients. Its contents seem to be ticking every requirement my skin needs. It feels hydrating, nourishing, and soothing and sinks in quickly. It sprays a bit strong so I like using a cotton pad when applying this. I use this every morning to hydrate and nourish my skin. Whenever I use this, my face doesn’t get dehydrated or overly oily in the middle of the day.
The Aknari Brightening Youth Serum ($110) works to smooth wrinkles, repair sun damage, lighten dark spots, soothe inflammation, brighten under-eye circles, and stimulate collagen production with prickly pear seed oil, argan oil, and rose flower essential oil. As with all Mun products, this smells amazing. Massaging the lightweight oil on the skin feels like your waking in a garden full of roses. Aside from that, this has also helped brighten my skin. After more than a month of use, I noticed that this has helped give me a glowing complexion after every use. My fave just looks bouncy and radiant whenever I use this.
Using niacinamide, prickly pear seed oil, and kalahari melon seed oil, the Protect + Revive Moisturizer ($65) is designed to improve the skin’s barrier function, increases moisture, and brighten and protect the skin. This has a musky plant-based smell that feels relaxing. It’s really creamy and a bit dense but applies smoothly on the skin and leaves it feeling plump and silky. It feels really luxurious on the skin and it really works well if applied after I deeply cleanse my skin. It hydrates and nourishes and it doesn’t just sit on top of my skin. Even though the texture is creamier than I would prefer, it doesn’t clog my pores and it doesn’t feel too heavy on my skin.
Mun Skincare came at the right time for me. Just when my skin is at a better state when it’s just looking for hydrating and nourishing products that will protect it and make it glow, Mun came along. I really love Anarose and Aknari and have enjoyed using Akwi and the Protect + Revive Moisturizer as well. It’s just a great clean brand overall and everyone should give their products a try.
